I wouldn't be surprised if our reality was something like that.
There's a manga called Sora no Otoshimono where one of the twists is that the super advanced inhabitants of a city in the sky would get into simulation capsules and "dream" that they were humans because their perfect lives with everything resolved in their civilization seemed boring to them. They envied the complicated but happy lives of humans. Or like that episode of Rick and Morty.
Whatever it is, if we're in fiction, they should fire the writer for being too sadistic when writing this version of the game.
