Forgot to upload this outside of Patreon and Cohost (rest in peace).
This is a map for the setting of Stolen Skies, in which I've made 3 comics; The Countess Rises Again, The Ultimate Weapon and An Unlikely Union. And below are a few A's to the Q's regarding the setting.
Q: What is The War fought over?
A: Victory. The War has gone on for so long that neither side knows what it was about originally. It could just as well have been what the Continent should be named, Kalcyria or Paralaesia?
Q: Which side is strongest/will win?
A: Both the Empire and the P.N.C. are basically equal in strength and resources and neither side will win.
Q: What's the deal with the red oil?
A: No one knows for sure. But also it's just a macguffin to allow for weird stuff to happen, like being turned into a mutant babe, like Nessie in An Unlikely Union.
Q: Does the oil change everyone's sex?
A: No, Nessie was already partially mutated before being kicked into it. The oversaturation just kicked it into full gear.
Q: Which side is the "good" and "evil" side?
A: Both are just awful, but most of the civil worker class is good at heart regardless of where they're from.
Q: What's the LGBTQ policy of the Empire and the Coalition?
A: Tyrodas doesn't have a long history of LGBTQ oppression like our world does, LGBTQ people are just as normal and common as snow is on Tyrodas. The Empire does however legally require a certain number of healthy babies to be born each year to replenish the troops, so occasionally people might be assigned the job of helping out with that.
Q: Is there a border-crossing conspiracy between the wealthy capitalist elites to make sure that the war goes on in perpetuity, for profiteering purposes?
A: No. I find greed to be less interesting in this setting than that the war has just ingrained itself as an inescapable fact of this world. The concept that most people in this world, regardless of class, are just incapable of considering that there could even be an end to the war at all. Sure, they fight for "Victory," but neither side is fighting for peace.
Q: Are there other kein in this world than humans?
A: Only humans and mutants, I'm afraid. But the mutations can definitely give people cool new bodies.
Q: Why is the setting called "Stolen Skies?"
A: Because thanks to both the encroaching ice age and the constant emmissions of greenhouse gases, the skies over the Continent are almost always covered with a thick blanket of smoke and clouds. A person can live their entire life on the Continent and never see the sun or a blue sky even once.
Q: Is there magic in this world?
A: No ;)

PNC Allies and Empire vassals, is life in them much different from the superpower they're aligned it? Are there any cool standout vassals or allied states?
Also, uhhhh, is the red oil like regular oil equivalent but with unusual properties, or a more rare substance? If it gets used in industry does it not create some low level ambient oddities and subtle changes everywhere with it leaking in atmosphere and elsewhere like, I dunno, microplastics irl?

The life situations for people on the Continent is about the same between both the superpowers and their vassal states and allies. It's similar to pre-WW1 living standards. The only reason there are such things as vassal states and ally states is because fully incorporating them into either the PNC or the Empire is unnecessary, the most important laws in those smaller nations are already the same as in the PNC or the Empire. There might be some minor differences like how in the Empire Vassal States education isn't quite as intensely propagandistic as in the Empire itself.
And there are no cool outliers among the smaller nations.
The oil found under Tyrodas is basically 100% the same as what we have on Earth, except that for some reason it's red and it causes weird mutagenic effects on people. It's been used as fuel, lubricants and in medicine for the last 200 years so that it has indeed saturated the continent to a degree that might be considered dangerous if anyone actually knew what the deal is with it.
Before the war, scientists were about to figure out what the deal was, but they're all dead now and their writings have been burnt. And since that level of science is now outlawed, the mystery will probably never be revealed. And also I personally have no interest in world-building that part because I don't think it's necessary. It's just a macguffin that mutates people.
