Kai's old life is described by those who know him as a duality of insanity and brilliance, of misfortunes that would ultimately benefit everyone.
On one hand, he was called a madman for scrawling indecipherable words on any writable surfaces or objects in his room.
On the other, he became a brilliant tactician on the battlefield, winning many wars, and earning him the title of general.
When the noble emperor died and the scheming elites took over, he became their willing puppet,
only doing so to spare the townspeople far worse fates than what was thought conceivable.

Through the elites' machinations into otherworldly powers, turned him and his regimen into a crazed abomination of ink and bone.
With the help of the mysterious brotherhood, he regained a semblance of his old self, as well as control over his curse.
He and his men have become as one, and calls upon them through the shedding of his own blackened blood.

Kai reluctantly took the invitation given by his and his countrymen's saviors, the mysterious brotherhood, of at least two of its members were his previous enemies.
It was the second time they saved his life, with a little convincing. The elites tapped into a supernatural power, and although were stopped, the dangers were far from over.
He had the option of giving the people justice and his head, but then end up dooming them and the universe later on,or living another day to save everything --
to which he chose the latter.

The scrawling of strange characters during episodes of insanity, bodies dissolving and reshaping into monstrosities, some in the brotherhood themselves
already experienced. He wanted to know the origin to the madness, for he sees a pattern in it all.
