I feel reluctant to... as there's not really a group more argumentative over what's "true" or "real" and what's "fake."
But I've been a karateka for 12 years of my life, so I'll speak my mind.
Kicks go below the waist, as when they go higher than that, you lose power and balance. Punches above waist, kicks below.
Of course, understand this is from the veiw of an Okinawan Karateka. A mainland Japanese style would find this normal, as they have been so corrupted by Chinese and Korean styles.

I'm a 3rd dan in Kenpo and a 1st Kyu in Isshin-Ryu. Kenpo is shit, so only take into account the Isshin-Ryu.
I've academically studied Naha-Te and Shori-Te, as it relates to the old master of Isshin-Ryu, Shimabuku Tatsuo, so I consider myself fairly learned. By no means to I claim true authority, though.

Idea, Paulie... use GOOGLE MAPS and focus on HIGHWAY 178 / ONYX or LAKE ISABELLA in the address bar and see if you can zoom down enough to activate that "Virtual Man Street-level" feature.... it will give you an idea on what my mom's area looks like.
