I read "Scary Stories For Young Foxes" when it came out, and it fucked me up so good I had to draw it. (Sent this to the author on Twitter. He faved.)
Then, I remember vividly because it was right before covid, I told my school librarian mom "okay, I'm returning these to the library, if you want to read any of the children's books here..."
She goes "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT."
"What?"
"It won a Newberry Honor today. It's the one book none of my librarian friends have heard of. There's only three or four copies in the entire Chicago Public Library system. We're all freaking out trying to find copies to read so we can talk with all the people who ask our opinions about the year. And you had one of them."
Despite the slander against polyamorous lilac animals, I give it a thousand points out of ten. I'm putting this as General because it's a kid's book and the picture isn't of the leg actually getting eaten.
