My memories of my late dad - who would have turned 56 today - are inextricably intertwined with memories of his various cars. He had an overwhelming preference for older models, and especially Volvos - I can remember him owning at least four or five during my own lifetime. The last of these was the red 1996 850 Estate depicted here, which you may recognise as the car Evelyn Clapton drives in the SPCM comics.
Sadly, by the time I came to start work on the page on which the Volvo appears, dad had already died in a caving accident in March 2020, so he never got to see it properly. I can take solace, however, in the fact that he had seen the rough draft a few months prior - it got a laugh out of him then, which was good enough for me.
If you're wondering about the title, I Am Rolling was (I assume) a compilation of songs originally recorded for various Volvo commercials and promotional videos. Of course, my dad had a copy - a dodgy MP3 download, which had itself been ripped from an even dodgier cassette - and I remember him getting a lot of mileage out of it on car journeys.
