Nickel Plate Road's (the New York, Chicago & St Louis Railroad) class S-2 Berkshire-type 2-8-4, #765 simmers at La Crosse, Indiana on an excursion over the shortline Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad. The Nickel Plate ran from Buffalo and Pittsburgh through Cleveland, Toledo, and northern Indiana, to St Louis, Peoria and Chicago. This locomotive returned to steam in 1979 and was overhauled again in 2003, still running today, often over its original home rails.
