A long quiet amble through the globeflowers brings Chaz to his destination.

Mother Kreakin's roots run huge distances outward from her trunk, excreting complex long-chain carbon-silicate compounds that seep up to the surface at occasional places to form treacherous sap-pits. Chaz walks to the edge of the pit, watches the curious lifelike flow of the sap, the shifting fractal color patterns...

... That thing on the horizon? A typical gliasco ("glass fiasco") from the nanoarchitecture bubble forty terran years back. An architectural startup firm let loose a trillion nanobots, programmed to grow a colossal shopping-mall out of purest silicate crystal - and as usual the nanobots got bored and started improvising. The bubble left suchlike messes on a thousand worlds, great gleaming godlike useless surreal nonsenses...

... Chaz feels the warmth of the New Kew sun, listens to the faint hum and rustle of the fauna in the globeflower thickets, drinks in the peace...
