Fox - cute but creepy little dog-like creatures that might eat your cats
Dragon - The mythical manifestation of a being more powerful than humans in the post-civilization age, after society has made all other natural predators easily fall before the spears and tactics of advanced humans
What WOULD you get if you combined those two? A being that threatens whole civilizations while also wanting to eat your cats? Does that mean that really, if you combined a Fox and a Dragon, you'd get ALF?

It's clearly a case of awesomeness short circuit, you put too much awesome in a thing, but its awesomeness is so great that it can't manifest it at full power... Becoming even less awesome than before.
