(Sorry this one is so huge, drew him in a stupid position so his tail stretches it out)
Name: Kyuss
Species: Norway rat, topaz/agouti/cinnamon self dumbo
Age: 5 months
Weight: 896 grams
Birthplace: Palm desert, California
Eye colour: Blue
Markings: Fur colour is somewhere between agouti and topaz, too light to be the former, too dark to be the latter, but not ticked enough to be a cinnamon. He is basically a rich orange-brown. Belly is grey as in a standard agouti rat.
Extras: His ears are slightly ragged at the edges from frostbite, and the end of his tail is missing. He still has his laboratory ear tag in his left ear. Kyuss is overweight, but in the very specific way that male rats tend to be overweight, ie, all folds of loose skin and squishyness. His feet are disproportionately huge. His hair is orange to copper and short, usually spiked a little. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he is inspired by Josh Homme of QOTSA.
Kyuss has two forms, the one described here being his usual form. But for a brief period in the book, he is possessed by Gabriel and used as a pawn to do his evil bidding.
In this situation, his appearance is the same as above with the following differences: his hair becomes unkempt, his eyes glow bright white and he has the ability to make his bones show through his skin. He is unable to be touched by other rats or objects, but he can touch them. He doesn't cast a shadow or leave footprints, but he does breathe. In his possessed form, he makes everything around him bitter cold and leaves ice crystals on those he touches. Though he was only in this form for a brief period in the book, an experience he cannot even remember, it doesn't mean he cannot be drawn this way.
General:
Kyuss was taken from his home in the desert, where he was a child's pampered pet, and given to Beck laboratories. At the lab, was used in hypothermia testing and was subject to extreme cold, the polar opposite to Jester. As such, he has severe frostbite on his ears, fingers and tail and is now absolutely intolerant of cold weather. He is very much a lover of the sun and tends to bask reptile-like when he can. He chain smokes, and is almost never seen without a cigarette in his hand or mouth, and he is also very comfortable with the idea of drugs.
Kyuss is lazy and he doesn't see why he should have to do anything he doesn't want to. And what he wants to do usually consists of eating, sleeping or ogling females. Most of the girls adore him because he's so charismatic and self confident. But Kyuss isn't ready to be tied down and in typical buck style, he sleeps with as many girls as he can, and most of them are queuing up for the opportunity. Kyuss certainly knows how to turn on the charm. He lives his life free and easy and doesn't intend on changing any time soon. The girls all love him, the guys all want to be him.
He and Jester had a restricted friendship back at the lab, and Kyuss has a soft spot for Jester. Now free of the lab, he has taken him under his wing and tries to improve his confidence but he tends to be a bad influence. Jester, however, looks up to Kyuss and trusts him unconditionally.
Despite his carefree and seemingly irresponsible attitude, Kyuss is a smart and friendly rat with a very good sense of humour and is surprisingly well adjusted considering his earlier life, his only issues being an insatiable desire for tobacco, a tendency to overeat and a habit of getting into fights. Indeed, it was his penchant for aggression toward other bucks which led to him being given to the lab in the first place. But he is actually very immature, can sulk when he doesn't get his way and secretly craves a mother figure, though he'd never admit this.
In a way, Kyuss is my comic relief. I can draw him to cheer myself up because he's laid back and spends most of his time just enjoying himself. It's also nice to draw a character who is brightly coloured since I don't get the chance with most of my others. But this doesn't mean that Kyuss is all light-hearted fun and games, he has his fair share of emotional scars from his lab days and misses his home in the desert. He just tends not to let others see this side of him because he feels uncomfortable and awkward talking about his emotions.
My computer died recently, meaning I lost all my reference pics of Josh, so cannot accurately show the tattoos on his arms at this point. I will add them in when I get my pics back.
