So... I like being small. But more importantly, I like being small animals. So I kinda ended up making a new fursona based on this, as well as some random jokes shared with friends and is also going to be a major character in a fanfic I'm making in Bainshie's LF Friends: Will Travel universe, because it turns out I like giving my fursonas fully-furnished stories.
Humans might not be the smartest or strongest or even the kindest of Earth's fauna, but the Terran sapients, above all else, are lonely. They anthropomorphize inanimate objects, pack bond with any creature that looks vaguely "friend-shaped," and stare into the stars hoping somebody is staring back. As the species advanced, their inventiveness became less about productivity or efficiency, but of companionship. So, they created sentient AIs they held as equals to themselves. They uplifted their pets, anthrofying them and then moving onto some other animals. It wasn't enough. The Terrans sent out space probes in search of anybody, anyone to look for, but to no avail. Finally, the Terrans snapped. If there were no aliens to befriend, then the Terrans would create them. This was, to put it lightly, a terrible idea. Rapidly mutating cells would be dumped onto planets, compressing billions of years of evolution into one or two decades. But then disaster happened. If any of these cells contacted a human, well, the term "god plague" speaks for itself. Humans reluctantly destroyed their science project, leaving no trace.
Enter Hante Duckwell, a guy who got his brain put into the body of a squirrel after falling terminally ill to the god plague as a human teen. His parents also died to the turbocancer, but their last wish was for theirmad scientist genetic engineer acquantince Rosa to save their son. But she was also working on a tiny sapient squirrel with the capability of creating psyonic explosions to launch itself and others, and gave Hante one of her brainless prototypes to be while she worked out how to fix his human body. But Hante actually liked being a squirrel, and the freedom to climb everywhere and have a lot of energy.
One brief couple-dozen millenia cryostasis stint later, Hante left the care of Rosa and ventured out into a world where humans discovered aliens. A bitter irony, indeed, but the squirrel joined a team of uplifts on a SETI voyage to find more friends.
Hante is a ship engineer and a seasoned mechanic whose size lets him repair parts others would have to spend hours just taking out of their housing. Additionally and his tinkering with large objects led him to create his scarf, made of super elastic fiber that can be used as a grappling rope, a device for tugging, or a weapon.
The squirrel's psyonics are very unstable and prone to activating randomly during intense emotions. While originally intended for use as a weapon, Hante found much more use for his newfound powers blast jumping all over the place.
But there is a possibility this journey he's embarking on will bring back more than he bargained for...
I do intend to publish the chapters here.
