"He knew that the sun rose. He could hear the sound of birdsong that had been so sweet when he’d listened to them curled up tight in the bed with his lover. Now, it just felt a twist in his stomach as emptiness surrounded him and he looked around the cave that had been their shared home.
There wasn’t much to pack up, most of it could be put in a single pack so that he could move quickly. Some of it would have to be left behind. He paused as he looked at the chair tucked in the corner, positioned just right so that it had the best natural light. The light was catching on the pair of spectacles resting on the side table, the glass a bit dusty, but the metal was still bright looking. The mage felt his throat tighten as he imagined Zane huffing at the dust, cleaning them with gentle careful hands, muttering how much he hated how often dust blue into the cave.
I.. can’t take those. What if he comes back? He thought and felt himself fold in on himself, the tears rising again.
Was there a point where the tears could stop? At some point that his body would stop producing them, Rowan didn’t know."
