I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it's such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.
- Ellen DeGeneres
Animals give me more pleasure through the viewfinder of a camera than they ever did in the crosshairs of a gunsight. And after I've finished "shooting," my unharmed victims are still around for others to enjoy. I have developed a deep respect for animals. I consider them fellow living creatures with certain rights that should not be violated any more than those of humans.
- Jimmy Stewart
Very little of the great cruelty shown by men can really be attributed to cruel instinct. Most of it comes from thoughtlessness or inherited habit. The roots of cruelty, therefore, are not so much strong as widespread. But the time must come when inhumanity protected by custom and thoughtlessness will succumb before humanity championed by thought. Let us work that this time may come.
- Albert Schweitzer
The fascination of shooting as a sport depends almost wholly on whether you are at the right or wrong end of a gun.
- P.G. Wodehouse
Deer hunting would be fine sport, if only the deer had guns.

Also, I love the way you've taken advantage of the stage-lighting concept to give a sense of mystery to any figure that walks off-stage, or that lurks, in this case, just beyond the light. It's a simple touch, but effective and eerie.

Good idea. :]

Yet, thanks a bunch for the compliment. :)
This is an excellent, and inspiring piece...
Oh and, thanks for mentioning him, I wasn't aware of his work. Looks very very interesting.
As for deer being beautiful animals, I very much agree. Mine are spoiled rotten, and get pictures taken of them all of the time, but the bucks can also be very destructive at times during hard rack.
Well, the story is pretty much what's in the quotes.
Yeah, I'm sure it's "a bit" desctructive - all those pointy bits at full strength with that body mass... Makes me wonder, is it really that beneficial for a species to have a percent of its male individuals killed during rut (not just deer, some other species tend to have a decent lethality to their rut fights).
and his hooves
I don't think all the anti hunting stuff needs to be in there.
their are jack asses with everything, I hate people that hunt for sport.
but some of uh gotta eat. or not having them end up on the front of the car.
Not to be too too lowbrow, but damn you draw fine deer men :)

I think that human cruelty comes from apathy(thoughtlessness), as he said, but more from the "because I can" mentality. Humans will commit the most unspeakable acts, if they do not fear retribution.
"The fascination of shooting as a sport depends almost wholly on whether you are at the right or wrong end of a gun.

"Deer hunting would be fine sport, if only the deer had guns.

Those quotes made me laugh, humans wouldn't find it such a fun sport if the deer were on equal ground and the hunter was risking their life.
