My dog does the same thing, he would just sit at the bottom of a tree and stare up it for ever looking at the squirrels, almost like they would come down. One squirrel was stupid enough to come down and ran to another tree. I noticed squirrels react differently with people and animals.
I wonder what goes threw their little minds, like maybe the tree 10 yards away is a safer one? normally then I walk up to a squirrel it just runs in a circle and then checks to see if I'm still there or they would lay flat on the ground almost like if it thinks I can't see him. silly squirrels.
