While hiding from the shower, a Toridcless joined us! They're willing to help us explore the locale! Though the forest may be thundertorn, Tobo's connection to thunder has brought us a new friend!
Hey everyone! ^vv^ Last week, I worked on some effects for locale exploration! In particular, I showed off wind effects as it gets to night time while exploring! (WIP, definitely would love the lighting to change and stuff later lol) This only happens in some rare quest instances and mostly just while out on expeditions (like when grinding subquests for rank points). Later in the story, when you're allowed to stay up late, it won't boot you out of the dungeon >vv< In most cases though, main quests have time limits so you'll just have to worry about that instead ^vv^
This week I added the functionality for abandoning quests as well as the Muddy status and terrain type- You'll see it in Gilded Forest (the locale I showed off before). After thinking about it, I wanted it to be a different terrain type, since if it was water, 3 of the dungeons present in chapter 2 would have water, and I think that's a little unfair >vv<
Muddy(AKA Mudblight) lowers your defense and accuracy, sort of similar to Waterblight (since waterblight lowered evasion instead of accuracy). You can get it from some skills or by being pushed onto a Mud tile. Barroth along with some other monsters will be able to walk on it, just like Plesitoh could walk on water, for example-- (This also came with removing Barroth's ability to walk on water, sorry!)
Now that abandoning quests is implemented as well as the quest timer being decently complete, I want to move onto sending monsters home, as well as the subquest system. Subquests will work like the Jobs from PMD- that is, you can have multiple taken at once and go out on expeditions to a locale to complete them. They reward you with items, currency, and rank points, which you'll need to progress the story. In addition, they let you go home early (just like in PMD, however, you can choose to return via them whenever you'd like! (which is just like pre-gen 5 subquests!)). Returning this way lets you get home and keep anything you've got (meaning it's not a loss), but doesn't complete the quest you're on if a major quest is present. They're a biiiig part of the game's gameplay loop, so it's important we crack down on that! ^vv^ let me know if that made no sense and I can try to elaborate lol >vv<
Finally, I held a poll on twitter asking about penalties for save-scumming... In mystery dungeon games, if they catch you trying to reload a save multiple times, they usually just fail you instantly, booting you from the dungeon and destroying items you have. In Monster Mystery, currently if you try, it just resets the dungeon to floor 1. I'll talk more about my plans involving it soon- but let me know if you couldn't vote over there and I'll take it into consideration (or if you have any suggestions!) ^vv^
Anyway, sorry for the massive word dump! I'm thinking of making a log on itch going over all the changes/additions so far and plans for chapter 2, since it's been a while since there was any news over there. Trust me, we've got a lot done, but there's also plenty to do to make sure Chapter 2 is fun and keeps your attention for a while! ^vv^
For now, please have a great weekend, and I'll see you soon! ^vv^/
