So... if you look back at the thumbnail, this was supposed to be a magic temple on a floating island in the sky with stormy ascending the stairs. I ran into a few complications with this before my hour for today ran out
First, I have an awful habit of always drawing things too big for the canvas. Normally it's a huge benefit that I'm doing digital, because I can always just select and scale down my sketch and reposition. Even when referencing my own thumbnail of appropriate scale, I ended up drawing one part of the base construction too large and throwing the scale of everything way off. So anyways,
By the time I finished the temple and island, I was at ~5 minutes left. Absolutely not enough time to add stormy climbing the stairs, so instead I added runic writing to it -- "Church of the Arcane"
So bear in mind that there is no character in this piece, but it is still going to have the mini story
While sifting through old archives, Stormy found records of an ancient religion that worshipped magic. Supposedly this church preached the origin of mana within the Mirror world. Stormy wanted to see for herself whether there was any truth to these wild claims -- maybe understanding the origin of magic could help to explain where the other magic users have disappeared to...
She mounted her dragon-familiar Occul, and took flight toward the region that was claimed to be the motherland of the religion. She didn't quite know what she was looking for, but hoped she would know it when she saw it.
And know it, she did. She and Occul had to fly across an area widely known as "the scar" -- the site of an ancient battlefield with a primordial dragon, the entire landscape scorched -- completely devoid of both life and mana. It was several hours of flying across carnage before the unusual scene revealed itself -- debris suspended above the dragon's skeleton at the center of the scar. Some were mere boulders, others were equipped with what was once artillery and other defensive weaponry. The most notable landmark amongst the floating rocks was a perfectly preserved building with ornate decoration. The architecture was reminiscent of modern churches. As she and Occul approached, they noticed writing in a lost language on the walls.
There was nothing left to do but investigate this discovery
