Character

Radyka was born in a small village on the planet of Kentauros, the capital planet of the Kentauros Empire, a minor power on the intergalactic stage. She had to live under the rule of the warlords of her feudal society, depriving her of most of her freedom and education; only by showing her talent with working with machines she was accepted into the Mechanics Trade School. But even a dictatorial regime couldn't stop love; she met her (future) husband, who was one of the schools' servants. They bonded in secret, and she had two children with him. Life was going well, servicing the ships of the Kentauros fleet for a living, hoping that the Empire wouldn't bother her much. Unfortunately, the Empire had other plans...

When the Earth-Kentauros War broke out, the Empire drafted its able population to crew their warships. Radyka was hoping she wouldn't be among the draft, but unfortunately, she was stationed in one of the cruisers. Her relationship with her superiors was strained. She refused to take orders to fight without explanation, and her rebellious behaviour made her end up in the ship's brig. Her fortune would dramatically change; her ship got into combat with a Terran one, and the boarding went in favour of the Terrans, with a mutiny helping them to take control of the ship. Radyka was being freed, and co-operated with the defecting crew to fly the ship to Earth. She tried to settle down in Mongolia, enjoying her freedom to roam around the plains, but space kept on calling towards her, along with a hope to see her family again that she missed very much every day. She got recruited by captain Higgs as a mechanic on the Pioneer. At first, she had some trouble working together with a mostly Terran crew, fearing her for the species she is, but over time, that fear and those preconceptions died down, and she's seen as a valuable member of the crew. She has never given up hope that one day, her family will be smuggled off Kentauros, and into the freedom she enjoys.

Space Centaurs! Because why not? Radyka is a beautiful (but tragic) example of one of them, having changed her allegiances to the Terrans.
