My dog found this guy while we were out looking for the rats.

He had a leech stuck to him, so I pulled it off and set him on his way.

He is an Eastern Painted Turtle.

Whoa, sweet! I love turtles. :D
Very colorful compared to the dusty tortoises we have here in the desert.

Such a cute lil' guy, thanks for picking that leech off of him. I bet he liked that. :D

Not yet, unfortunately. :/
I am currently trying to contact a volunteer pet detective -- he has tracking dogs, and if anything can find these rats, it's a dog.

I hope I hear from him soon!

I didn't know leeches could bother a turtle, I thought the skin might be too tough. I was wrong!

x3 Wow, they live for a long time!
They are so cute! I had two as "pets" once (someone was selling them as pets, but they were wild-caught animals!), but once they were large enough, I let them go in a nearby pond. Maybe one day I will have some that are really "pets" x3
