Dunkel was the fourth illustration I painted. Despite being a VERY German style beer, and crocodiles are... not at all native to Europe, I wanted to show something large, heavy, and friendly. Dunkels can be heavy like Stouts and Porters but are usally a couple shades lighter than. Easy drinking, dark beers. So Dunkel started off like a more traditional heavy set dragon that got pushed into a very round, colorful, in its cups design.
