The Cascadian Dark is a medium body black ale native to the Pacific Northwest. I was introduced to it after talking to a couple different beer aficionados when the subject of "more beer dragons?" came up. The initial descriptions were intriguing enough to follow up years later when choosing the five new brews.
It's almost heavy, with the tastes of resin/sap, spices, and sometime has a hint of citrus, and... is the only beer style of all the ones I've depicted I have not tried.
Cascadian Dark is also the last of series 3 that I painted. I had a solid idea of a simple color scheme but was worried about blending the black and red together smoothly, so gained confidence with the other illustrations first.
8x8" watercolor, gouache, on Arches.
