VixenLogix0089 - Market Crash
Magical Cardboard is a fickle metagame and an even more fickle market.
We actually had this page planned out a while before certain bannings in a certain format of a certain popular trading card game happened. We just thought now would be a great time to post it as it is quite topical ^_^
Cameo appearance by Cooper. Thanks for the support~

Given the mention of a banlist, I'm more inclined to assume Yugioh, which has an extremely volatile secondhand market due to the absolute lack of card-rotation and a banlist that can see dozens of cards banned and unbanned every 4 months or so.
Nothing is more painful to a seller of singles than seeing a meta staple go from 3 to 0. Your $90 Foil Secret Rare is suddenly completely unsellable.

It's based off of Magic: the Gathering (if you look closely, you can tell what card is being parodied~) but I wanted to keep it vague enough to apply to all sorts of different games. It just so happens that recently some very controversial bans in the popular MtG format EDH/Commander happened so posting this page just felt topical :3
See, this is why you focus on cards you think are cool rather than what will make you win.
If my salt rock thing gets banned, it’s still awesome and I have it.
And if you focus on meta, you’ll find out quickly where cards start to get banned, because eventually the tournament masters will figure it out too.
You I tried to make a joke, but it didn’t come off right… I need to sleep more.

I'm of the mind that if you're just a group of friends, not competing professionally, nobody's a professional collector, everybody's only playing for fun, and it'll never expand beyond that........
... then why not just go print out ALL the cards from the Internet and actually have some fun rather than worry about all this investment or card resell value nonsense?

Banned means not legal in sanctioned play. That usually means a card is less useful, thus has less demand which means less value. However, the game does have cards that are legal but won't ever be printed anymore because stupid reasons and those do become a rarity.
