Chapter 2:

Jake had been busy with chores all morning when he realized Kate was nowhere to be found. Curious, he wandered outside and found her sitting in the garden, Relieved and happy to see her, he walked over and sat beside her, the scent of blooming flowers surrounding them. "I’ve been looking for you," Jake said with a smile. Kate glanced at him, smiled back, and replied, "I was just enjoying the quiet wanna join me?"

Jake put his arms on her back. "Why not, I just finished some chores," he said, beginning to gently massage Kate’s shoulders. She closed her eyes, a contented smile spreading across her face. "Huh, this is nice..." she murmured.
Noticing the papers in her lap, Jake asked, "Hey sis, what’s that?" Kate tucked the papers away, replying, "Just some studies... full of intricate, old drawings."

Jake chuckled. "You enjoy the quiet by studying?"

"Well," Kate said, glancing at her brother, "yeah, studying here in this beautiful garden is... just perfect." She smiled and lay back on the grass, staring up at the sky. "Come on, Jake... watch the sky with me."

Jake joined her, lying on his back as his hand gently played with her hair. "Did you add more crimson to your hair lotion?" he asked teasingly.

She grabbed his hand softly and laughed, "Nah, just the usual stuff. Why?"

"Ha, ha... with this sunlight, your hair looks so pretty," he replied. Kate blushed, "Well, thank you."
"At least you noticed," Kate said with a soft laugh.

Jake looked surprised. "What?"

She giggled. "I did put some more crimson in, but you're the only guy who noticed."
"Well, I’m your brother. It’s my job to care for you," Jake replied, smiling.

Kate closed her eyes, her smile fading slightly. "Well... I’m happy." But there was a hint of sadness in her voice.
Jake lifted his head, sensing the shift in her mood, and looked at her with concern. "Hey... what's wrong, Kate?"

"Huh... nothing... it's just, you know, boys being boys," Kate muttered.

Jake looked into her eyes, his expression firm. "Well, they can shove their insults up their asses."

Kate smiled faintly. "Yeah, they think I’m short and a nerd."

Jake helped her to her feet, brushing the dirt off her back. "Kate, you’re the most gentle and beautiful girl I know. You’re smart, you love nature, and your paintings could make angels cry. Don’t let those losers get to you they’re just jealous."

Kate’s eyes widened playfully. "Oh, you think I’m beautiful?" she teased, patting his head.

Jake shook his head with a grin. "Hey, I’m telling the truth here..."
Kate pulled him into a tight hug. "I know, dummy... Thank you."

"Hey, I’m always here for you," Jake said softly.

"I know," Kate replied with a smile.

"Jake?"

"Yeah?"

"Wow... what was that?"

"A, thank you!" Kate said with a playful smirk, She liked to tease her brother from time to time,

Jake raised an eyebrow. "Well, that’s the second kiss you’ve given me on the cheek."

Kate chuckled. "Ha ha... guess I’m just full of surprises today!"

"So... wanna watch a movie?" Kate asked.

"Yeah, sure," Jake replied with a smile, wrapping an arm around her shoulder as they headed to get the projector.
