Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye
That slepen al the nyght with open eye-
(So priketh hem Nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes
To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
And specially from every shires ende

Beautiful. I love the green eyes.
I also love Middle English... had a lot of fun in highschool memorizing this passage... hadn't read it in a long time, so it was nice to be able to read back over the words just now and tripping my tongue around the language. It's insanely beautiful when read properly.
(Scots English ala Robert Burns is my other favorite variety of English... stuff likr "Wee sleekit cowrin timerous beastie / Oh what a panick's in thy breastie...")

Tis nicely donne, me favorite son.
I would think to understand Chaucer one needs a modern English, (in my case colloquial American) from Middle English dictionary translator. Myself I use Sisson's word finder a type of reverse dictionary-thesaurus. Anyway there may not be much hope for me, I still have not refrained completely from putting the subject of what I'm talking about until I've made all the possible sub-category tangents in the meaning I want to covey at the end of my sentences. A lot like old and middle English poets, ( in my case it might be because i learned the science of German grammar along with the science of English grammar at the same time in High School).
You know over at Corel they are hawking the painter 11 now refusing to give out any kind of discount on 10. Alas I have found the difficult ways to make things work out of my 52 dollar Paint Tool Sai from Japan - program.
