asianeko was planning a collaboration on a cover of 'Sanctuary' (Passion) of Kingdom Hearts, and looking for someone to write an orchestral cover to it. I volunteered; and was lucky to be able to work with her.
She's a wonderful singer and a lovely artist to work with - and if you're not watching her yet, you should!

I really liked this a lot, but I don't think that Sanctuary/Passion is one of those songs that works well in a purely orchestral setting.
When I listened to this, it didn't feel like a cover, it felt like a completely new song. It doesn't make it any less good in my opinion, it just makes it a bit... weird. The original song is all about rhythms and beats and without it, it becomes a bit lacking.
It's a really good orchestral cover, seriously, and I love the instrumentation, and AsiaNeko's singing is stunning as always, but it's really not one of those songs that work well as orchestral. Not even the original orchestral version does justice to Utada Hikaru's pop version in my opinion.

Commented on Asia's one but wanted to come say something here too.
Really nice backing, you did a fabulous job there :D! The intro sounded very Movie-esque like a Disney OST or something. I love it.
My only criticism, which is nothing major is that I think some of the instruments contend with her voice too much, particularly the oboe/clarinet (whatever it is XD) that comes in first and then dances around her vocals. I think perhaps it is too loud.
However that's really up to you of course.
Very good job, I am a huge Utada fan myself and I don't think you did it any injustice ! x

They're going into the other version of it she said to me, you can look forward to those! I also like them too XD they were quite clever in a way.
Also I can see why they wouldn't add them into an orchestrated version... would not fit so much in my opinion, maybe that was their reasoning too.

Braww... I have to go to work, but I can't because I keep listening to your work. It'll be a good day because of it though.
Beautiful dramatic swells and fanfares. They evoke a glorious dawn, even though sunrise isn't for another two hours around these parts. It's been sometime since I've seen a sunrise. As such I'm tremendously grateful for the privilege of listening to one. I really need to get these on disc and play them in my car. All my other music makes me drive too fast. I think you work would really help me calm the hell down. Probably save me on those wreckless driving tickets that I can attribute to Papa Roach and Disturbed.
