Maritime day 2024
This is inside the containment vessel of the NS Savannah. The vertical cylinder on the left is the shield tank (formerly containing the reactor vessel), and the port steam generator can be seen in the middle. This was taken after most of the decommissioning, note that the downcomers (vertical tubes below the horizontal cylinder) of the steam generator are cut. The remaining cylinder is the steam drum. The water drum was connected to the steam drum by the downcomers (it would have been out of sight below the field of view of the camera), and contained tubes through which primary coolant was pumped, to boil secondary system water for steam to drive the turbines.

When all of the equipment was actually there, I bet it would have been hard to even move around in, much less photograph. Its been pretty much gutted.
The containment vessel is a cylinder with dome ends, and a cupula sticking out the top. This picture is towards the side (so the domes on left and right, cupula up), you can see the curved bulkhead behind the steam generator. That curve is 35 feet in diameter.
