Most definitely, the normal aging process is hard to get now. There are processes that can "ferment" the tea at a "faster" rate, now, too, though the flavor isn't as complex! I've been aging some puerh myself for a few years, but given I live in a small house and can't exactly keep it in an entirely "dry" location with me cooking within a few feet of it, we'll see if I age it properly!
