Story:
Rain hike
Shyrsirru hurriedly left the canteen of the archaeologists' camp and looked around. Everything here was new to her, where should she start her search for the lioness? The canteen door opened behind her and Syndra, her team leader, came out.
"Hey, Shyrsirru, don't worry, Zingara is definitely not mad at you. Believe me, if she had a problem with you, she'd call you on it right away. In all the years I've been friends with Zingara, she's always made her opinion clear to everyone if something bothered her about the person. Just wait until she's back and talk to her calmly."
Shyrsirru shook her head. "It just doesn't give me any peace that I just interfered with her work! I need to know if she's mad at me!"
"That can wait too. You'd better get some rest from your exertions." Syndra tried again. Shyrsirru looked back at her and smiled.
"I'm already feeling much better, don't worry. Just take good care of Tanzasa, he really needs to take it easy."
Syndra waved her hand. "He'll sit at the table and wait for me to come back."
Shyrsirru's gaze wandered past Syndra to the entrance of the canteen and she had to grin. Syndra turned around with a sigh and saw Tanzasa behind her, smiling sheepishly.
"I just wanted to see if everything was okay." Came meekly from Tanzasa.
Shaking her head, Syndra stretched out her arm. "Come here and lean on me, I'll take you to your quarters. Oh and Shyrsirru, don't overexert yourself!"
"I'll take care of myself, I promise." She took a few steps away from the two of them, spread her wings and moved them by way of testing. Apart from a slight exhaustion, everything was fine.
With a leap and powerful wing beats, Shyrsirru rose above the archaeologists' camp. She surveyed the camp and the possibilities of where Zingara could have gone. According to Syndra, Zingara wanted some rest, so she was probably no longer at the camp. The main access road to the camp wasn't exactly quiet at the moment, so Shyrsirru decided to follow the small path leading away from the camp.
She glided over the trees that lined the path and kept an eye out for Zingara. She went over this crazy day again in her mind.
Shyrsirru was really looking forward to her first day of work as an archaeologist. On the one hand, there was the opportunity to learn more about the dragons who visited Belara over two hundred years ago, then left the planet again after a few years, leaving only their sealed facilities behind. On the other hand, she was very much looking forward to working with Tanzasa, her best friend from her student days.
As Shyrsirru flew towards the archaeologists' camp, she could see from a distance that something was wrong. An ambush! She crossed her front paws and flew through the attackers like a wrecking ball. She flung a straggler coming out of one of the containers through the air with a flick of her tail.
But the worst thing was when she saw her boyfriend Tanzasa. He was badly injured and had just collapsed. Her team leader Syndra Amalith, who only knew Shyrsirru from her phone calls with Tanzasa, intercepted him and laid him on the ground.
Things were not going well for him, so she decided to use her magical talent. Her talent for healing was dangerous for Shyrsirru, which is why she had only tried it once on a scratch so far.
Closing the bullet wound took a lot of strength from her and she fell into a very deep sleep afterwards. Fortunately, it only lasted a little over three hours.
When Shyrsirru woke up, the camp was bustling with activity. Security personnel secured the camp, archaeologists secured their finds and the last of the medics packed their things and left the camp. Syndra and Tanzasa sat next to her and breathed a sigh of relief when she woke up. They told her everything that had happened while she was asleep.
Tanzasa had refused to be taken to hospital as he felt much better thanks to Shyrsirru's help. All but one of the attackers were taken to hospital. The security team with team leader Zingara arrived as planned. It was to support the security team from the camp and Zingara was to take charge. Now they had more to do than just create and implement security concepts.
Syndra pointed to a black lioness who was talking to someone tied up some distance away. According to Syndra, Zingara was trying to get information from this attacker, but unfortunately it looked bad.
Shyrsirru wanted to help, so although she was still weak, she approached the bound attacker menacingly. She actually managed to get some information out of him. Which made her uncomfortable by now. Not only did she interfere in Zingara's work, she neither introduced herself to her nor spoke to her afterwards. She simply went back to Syndra and Tanzasa without another word. And that was only because she was overcome by a hunger she had never felt before. Syndra and Tanzasa took her to the canteen, where she ate what felt like half the stock of fruit and vegetables. Healing Tanzasa had taken more out of her than she had expected.
A movement in the corner of her eye and wild screams tore Shyrsirru from her thoughts. She flew a little lower and there she saw Zingara. Who was furiously beating a tree?
Shyrsirru could not believe her eyes and now hoped even more that she was not responsible for the lioness's bad mood. Shyrsirru landed softly behind Zingara at a distance. She immediately stopped flapping and turned to Shyrsirru.
"You here? Has something happened?" Zingara asked.
"Um, no. I wanted to apologize."
Zingara looked questioningly at Shyrsirru.
"Well, I didn't even introduce myself and then I interfered with your work. I really didn't mean to make you angry. Sorry!"
Zingara smiled. "Is that why you followed me? Don't worry, I'm definitely not angry with you." She wiped some blood from her slightly scraped knuckles and held out her hand. "My name is Zingara. Nice to meet you."
Surprised, Shyrsirru shook Zingara's hand. "My name is Shyrsirru. Do you need a bandage for your injury?"
Zingara shook her head. "It's just a small scratch. Not worth mentioning."
Shyrsirru looked at her questioningly. "What made you so angry that you hit a tree?"
Zingara's expression darkened. "That's not important. Let's go back to camp. Rain clouds are gathering." They walked side by side in silence for a short time until Zingara turned to Shyrsirru.
"Thank you for your help. Thanks to you, we know who is behind this robbery."
Grinning, Shyrsirru replies. "I just growled a little and gave him an angry look."
Zingara laughs briefly. "You're really understating things! Your growling made my bones vibrate and when liquid fire came out of your mouth, I thought there was nothing left of the guy to question."
"Zingara, I'll tell you something. The whole thing was just for show. In fact, I've never completely lost it, and I also have to concentrate very hard if I want liquid fire to come out of my mouth."
"Respect! It looked really scary. Your anger was palpable." Zingara replied admiringly.
"Well, I was angry too, after all Tanzasa almost died. Hm, is that why you're so angry? If Tanzasa hadn't stood in front of Syndra, she would have taken the bullet."
Zingara shook her head. "You're quite curious!" She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Her expression hardens and she clenches her fists. As if to confirm the gloomy mood, it starts to rain.
Shyrsirru spread her wings over Zingara to protect her from the rain. Zingara didn't even notice and began to speak.
"Yes, without him, Syndra might be dead now! She's my best friend. Do you know what the worst thing about that is?"
Shyrsirru shakes her head.
"Can you remember the name of the client for the robbery that the guy mentioned?"
"Yes, Ronusharr Tuoba. If I'm not mistaken, that's the king of Eskea." Shyrsirru replied.
Zingara stopped, as did Shyrsirru, who turned her head towards her with a questioning look on her face.
A bitter smile formed on Zingara's face and she indicated a curtsy.
"May I introduce myself? Zingara Tuoba."
Shyrsirru swallowed hard in shock. "Is he part of your family?" She asked cautiously.
"Yes, he's my father. Although he never really was for me." The contempt in Zingara's voice was palpable. "The best thing he ever did for me was to disinherit and banish me!"
They both walked on in silence. Zingara's face showed her anger, frustration and helplessness.
Shyrsirru looked sympathetically at her. "You may not be able to do anything directly against your father, but if Syndra is right, you are the best when it comes to protecting others. So he won't have much chance of harming anyone here or getting his hands on the technologies."
A small smile forms on Zingara's mouth. "You're right about that! Tactics, security concepts and protection are what I have perfected. I had to learn that as a small child, from a father who would have used any opportunity of weakness to get rid of me. I also have a little satisfaction. You see, the Amalith family is an important trading partner of Eskea. But probably not for long, once they learn that their daughter was almost killed. Especially since the order to attack came directly from the king of Eskea." Zingara grinned broadly.
"Your childhood must have been terrible!" Shyrsirru said sadly.
Zingara looked at her in disbelief. "How did you do that?"
"What do you mean?" Shyrsirru asked, confused.
"I'm suspicious of everyone. Only when I really trust someone do I talk about such private things. So far, only Syndra has managed to get me to trust her so quickly."
"I didn't do anything. I'm always like this, there's no intention behind it!" Shyrsirru explained.
"You seem dangerous if you manage to take me by surprise so easily. I'll have to keep a close eye on you!" Zingara struggled to hide her smile.
"What? But I'm not dangerous!" Shyrsirru said indignantly.
Zingara nudged Shyrsirru's shoulder and grinned. "I like you and thank you for protecting me from the rain"
Confused, Shyrsirru shook her head.
"Look, there's the camp already. Shyrsirru, come on, I'll buy you a meal. Your stomach is growling terribly"
Shyrsirru didn't even notice that she was hungry again and replied. "Um, thank you. You do know that the food in the canteen is free, right?"
"Of course I know that, but the gesture is the important thing." Zingara replied with a laugh.
"I like you too." Grinning broadly, Shyrsirru stuck her tongue out at the lioness.
