Charlie was completely dumbfounded as he watched his friend slip inside the dog house. For a moment he hoped that somehow, the bizarre magical power wouldn't change Cooper too, but as Daisy finally ran up next to Charlie, they started hearing grunts of pain, and the sound of popping bones. In the shadowed interior of the dog house, Charlie could see as a human on hands and knees slowly was pushed and pulled into a more animalistic shape. Witnessing it as a spectator made it no less discomforting.
"C-Cooper!" Daisy cried out, "W-what?"
She glanced to Charlie. "We need to do s-something," she said, visibly shaking.
Charlie just whimpered, and backed up slightly. Daisy seemed to jolt back to life, regained her senses, and sprang over to the dog house, grabbing Cooper's legs and pulling him out.
But it was hardly the same Cooper that had gone in. A tail jumped out from his shorts, covered in short white and brown fur. Most of Cooper's body had become canine, with his arms and legs now firmly adapted to being on all fours. He turned his head to look at Charlie and Daisy, right as his face pushed out into a muzzle. Despite witnessing a person transforming into a dog for the second time, the most bizarre part was... Cooper was smiling.
He grinned, and began panting with a long dog tongue. His glasses vanished into thin air, and his clothes began to fade into his body, revealing a fur coat of white with a couple large brown spots. Finally, it ended. Cooper ran around in a circle while wagging his tail, and let out a spirited bark. He looked like the stereotypical depiction of a dog, though Charlie couldn't remember what breed it was.
Charlie and Daisy were stunned, barely moving, even as Cooper seemed ecstatic.
"I... I just watched two friends turn into dogs," Daisy whispered. "Oh gosh... oh gosh... what do I even do...?"
Cooper stopped and looked at her, tilting his head with a quizzical look.
"Wh-why are you looking at me with that confused look? I have every reason to be upset! For all I know you two are stuck as dogs forever!"
In response, Cooper rolled his eyes. What had he been thinking? He'd possibly just given up his humanity on a whim, and still acted like it was no big deal?
Cooper barked a few times, and somehow, Charlie sensed their meaning - let's do a test. Cooper then walked back into the dog house... and over the course of several minutes, relief washed over Charlie as he watched Cooper change back to his old self, and thankfully with clothes and glasses intact.
"See?" Cooper said, still on hands and knees inside the dog house, "nothing to be afraid of."
He got up, a bit too early though, and bonked his head lightly on the door to the dog house. Served him right.
Daisy breathed in deep, and shoved him. "That was so stupid though you doofus! You had no idea there was a way to get back!"
"But there is," Cooper grinned, "so there's no need to be worried—and isn't this the coolest thing ever? I was a jack Russell terrier! Magic is real! We can turn into dogs!"
It seemed like Daisy was calming down, and she had a hint of a smile on her face.
"Just...," she said, "if magic really is real, and we run into some crazy thing like this in the future... don't ever do something like that again." She gave him a debatably friendly shove.
Charlie barked.
"Oh, yeah," Cooper said. "Forgot about you for a sec little guy."
Jerk. Charlie suddenly realized that he'd started growling, and stopped.
Cooper laughed. "You make a cool little border collie man."
Charlie shook his head, and began making awkward steps toward the dog house.
"Oh c'mon dude," Cooper stepped in his way, "we know now that it's alright, that you can change back... sure you don't want to play around with this for a bit?"
Charlie was dumbfounded. What?
"What about you Daisy?" Cooper said, "you wanna try it?"
She flinched. "Me? Turn into a dog? I... I don't know..."
"Augh," Cooper frowned, "you two are no fun."
With that, he casually went back into the dog house. Once again, Charlie watched silently as his friend grew a tail, fur, and came to stand on four legs. He trotted out, proud as ever, looking expectantly up at Daisy. She glanced to Charlie, then back to Cooper, thoughts obviously circling in her head.
Was she seriously considering this? When this was over, he needed to find some new people to hang out with, as these people were defective. Charlie started walking towards the dog house again... but then Daisy stepped in his way.
No! He wanted to refuse, but all that came out was a bark. Daisy looked into his eyes with uncertainty - and then crouched down into the dog house.
Charlie backed away, and unfamiliar with his awkward four legs, he fell onto his rear. This one... he couldn't watch. Charlie shut his eyes tight, and turned away. He couldn't bear to witness the girl he'd had a crush on for so long be reduced to an animal. The minutes passed by painfully slowly, until...
A soft bark hit his ears. He kept his eyes closed. Then he felt a wet snout press again his fur covered face. Finally he submitted, and opened his eyes. A dog with a pale yellow coat, pointed ears, and a curled up tail smiled slightly at him. Oh gosh... it... it couldn't be. He couldn't bear for it to be true.
Charlie slowly stood up. The dog walked around in a circle, sniffing at the air, and then craned its head to look back at its tail, which it wiggled slightly, and smiled. As dogs went, it was at least more on the cute side than the slobbery side.
The dog barked at him a few times... and Charlie's ears perked up in surprise. He could... understand.
^Well,^ Daisy asked with a sheepish expression, ^how do I look?^
Cooper wagged his tail. ^Awesome.^
Charlie sighed. ^Like a dog, I guess.^
^I'm a Shiba,^ Daisy said, her smile broadening. Augh, for real? Did she really have to like this too? It was starting to make Charlie feel like he was the weird one.
Daisy wagged her tail, and briefly chased Cooper around, both of them barking. These barks Charlie still understood, but they didn't have any deeper meaning, just "I'm having fun." The two of them stopped after a bit, and looked to Charlie, who was still tensed up, and looking down at the dirt.
^What's the matter Charlie?^ Cooper asked, ^cat got your sense of fun?^
Charlie snorted. And barked forcefully. ^I'm done with this, I'm changing back.^
Cooper jumped in front of the dog house, his collar jingling.
^C'mon dude, like, this is real magic. Like, what if we had discovered we could fly? Wouldn't you want to just mess around with that for a bit?^
^Not if there was a chance I could randomly start falling,^ Charlie barked, stamping a paw against the ground.
^I think it'll be alright,^ Daisy said, ^if we just have a bit of fun for a while, and then change back.^
^I'm not a dog dang it! And this is fun? You guys have gone nuts.^
^We just discovered this amazing thing Charlie,^ Cooper said, ^and you immediately want to go back to normal life and pretend that nothing happened? You're lame as—^
They heard the sound of a door opening. A car door. Charlie's gaze shot to the road beside the yard - and saw the dog catcher standing there, wearing a devious smile.

Honestly it could kinda work either way
Dog catcher is just doing his job, is an obstacle that moves the narrative in a fun way
Dog catcher knows, a dark implication when you think about it if Charlie and his friends are not the 1st ones to tf into dogs, but given the vibe of this story I don't think it will go that dark XD

I mega appreciate this isn't a permanent tf being able to shift back and forth no worries just complications in the way XD XD
I wonder if either just Charlie or all 3 will be captured and be able to understand the pound dogs orrr simply evade dog catcher and go play at a park with other dogs ;)
