It goes without saying that as time continues on, progress will naturally come to innovate or reimagine things; making things better than what they once were. However, while things may improve; there’s no harm in revisiting certain things that might seem old or outdated. For example: ever since the first pixels were placed on our TV screens, video games have evolved so much that they’re almost unrecognizable from the days of old. As we all have consoles and advanced hardware in our modern homes and in our pockets in the form of smartphones; arcades sometimes feel as if they’re slowly losing relevance. For someone like Edel, this couldn’t be further from the truth! While Edel has no issue playing games at home, she can’t deny that there’s something both thrilling and nostalgic about visiting an arcade; and either slotting in some coins or using a purchased card to get an experience that would be too expensive to enjoy at home. Edel recalls a lot of childhood memories where she would either go to a local arcade or supermarket and play arcade cabinets until she ran out of both continues and money! Nowadays, Edel might visit an arcade every so often so she can relive her childhood and experience some old-fashioned video gaming. To say Edel enjoys these arcade visits would be an understatement as she relishes in what she’s playing such as rail shooters, fighting games, air hockey, pinball, and maybe even a rhythm game or two. Even if she can’t sway some of her friends to join her on these arcade visits, Edel still had a seemingly magical time playing games that she wouldn’t be able to at home. However, this isn’t to say Edel can’t find a good gaming partner, as her skills can attract onlookers who might want someone to play with as well. Granted, with her skill, Edel ends up inadvertently carrying the team; somewhat trivializing the added difficulty of having another player. Nonetheless, Edel enjoys her time at the arcade, regardless of whether or not its with friends or by herself. *TRIVIA: Edel has stated that the first arcade game she ever one, was the crane game, where she one a plushie UFO, which she still has to this day; viewing it as a trophy for her perseverance and skill.
