Few familiars are more useful to a wary wizard than a Goat-Guard. A discovery of Phineas Acawaz II in the waning days of the Summer War, the Goat-Guard proved to be an expert defender of property, both personal and mystical. Standing at 4-feet tall, the satyr-like being may not seem imposing at first glance - but few things are more cantankerous and unpleasant than these old goats, even on the best of days. Should a-would-be thief attempt to steal it’s masters property… He shall see what the Goat-Guard’s like on a bad day.
Sadly, in modern times, this familiar has faded into a parlor spirit or curiosity for hedgewizards, rather than the esteemed guard it once was. Being fat, grumpy goats as a rule, they ate a considerable amount - around their weight a day, a figure which was prone to growth - and would snipe and grumble constantly - serving as a mirror to some of their masters. They proved to be an annoyance to prideful, popular magicians - although, druids, shamans, and hermit-mages appreciated these personality quirks. The prevalence of low-cost, high-strength, and fully obedient golems destroyed the use of these familiars.
However, their obscurity is a strength for some wizards - the counters weaknesses of the Goatguard are prone to rumor and speculation due to the folksy nature of the creatures, with magicians not even bothering to classify the creature as strictly a Fae, Deamon, or Construct. This makes them a trickier counter for modern thieves on the rare case they’re encountered - and while brief peace with this creature can be gained through food, their loyalty and determination is never shirked - only distracted, momentarily.

Here’s a goat dude I drew up yesterday starting straight at the inking stage and skipping the sketch part altogether - when I’m in the mood, I do like doing that from time to time. Pretty happy with how this odd old goat turned out - nothing too fancy, but, a fun sketch and a fun writing exercise all the same. I hope you all enjoy!
