The contract was signed, and then it collapsed in on itself, drawing the pen, and the adventurer in with it. Everything went dark for him, as he drifted into unknown darknesses. Only the spark was left behind, and it floated over to the enthroned Demon.
The adventurer awoke beneath the tides. At once panic set in, a blinding, piercing sound and light as whispering roars tore him apart. He was flung into the abyss, below the crushing depths, somehow he lived. Strange lights and drums below lured him deeper down, drawn by the power of the contract.
As he drifts down into the dark, he floats past a broken arch in an ancient ruin, stones blasted to the sea floor - forgotten, silenced. A drowned place a forgotten place. Sea life for the most avoids it, save for a few odd and glowing corals. Yet as swims through the stones, towards the dazzling dark his contract actuates. The twisting darkness of the sea and cosmos enters him, contorting is body into a massive shape.
Fleshy tendrils descend over a mouth that that no longer fears water, as a second pair of eyes open in the oceanic gloom of the benthic library. The knowledge here enters his warping brain, that expands into a cephalopod’s crest. Legs dissolve into monstrous tentacles, with glowing eyes and the dust of space speckling them. The demon would learn all he could from this library, and then leave the seas to enter the dark between the stars.
*****
The darkness beyond was not a place he ever intended to visit, the beings there were produced from the nightmares of mortals and divine alike. Agezazel had no reason to treat with those entities, but having one indebted to him could only help in the future.
The new demon’s descent had torn a rift into the deeps, and now the library of Bythos was open to him as well. He shuddered to wonder what truly went on beyond the spheres of the ineffable, that was beyond his ken. All he wanted was the contents of that library, but there was far more than he knew, and far more than he wanted to know for that matter, in the cosmic depths.
