Black Dragon and Birdman (Mount Dragon and the Vulture) were a Kaiju and Kaijin that appear in Ep.52 of the Spectreman tv series, "Operation Capture Mount Dragon". The episode was among the few whose stories was self contain in a single episode, rather than the general 2 parter episode format of the show.
Appearance and Abilities
Black Dragon was a sauropod like Kaiju that appear in the mountains, and Dr. Gori intendeds to use it for his purpose; it sport two horns on its head, one on the snout and the other on the the top of the head, its mouth was full of sharp teeth, this implies the creature was a carnivore, as it swallow Otto, and Gori had plans to unleashed it once in the city. It had a long serpentine tongue and the Monster mostly used it size, tail and strength as weapons. Black Dragon may had been on the tail end of the Smaller Giant Monsters of the show, as the Beast fitted completely in Flat Bed during its transport, as well is the only Kaiju that by the time the shows ends, is presume to still be alive, as it was seeing after the battle still been transported.
The Vulture (or Birdman) is the 2nd creature in the episode, a Kaijin (Special Person) created by Gori, with the body of a man and head of a vulture. It was capable of flight and was created by Gori to provide assistance to Black Dragon. It kept flying close to the Monster causing trouble to the G-Men until it landed on the beast once it was surrounded by a crowd and injected an drug that awoke it; after achieving is mission, The Birdman disappear, presumably having died.
History
A Massive Dinosaur Kaiju emerges from the Forest, but instead of killing it, the Pollution Squad is order to capture, and the team succeeds by using Anesthetic Pellets on the monster. Once under control, Black Dragon is loaded onto a flat bed trailer and is driven across the country to the city for study (What could possibly go wrong, Fellas?).
However, a flying creature – The Birdman – follows the team and the monster on behalf of Gori, who has plans for the monster once they reach the city; George, acting on his sixth sense when seeing the flying object, has the group keeping a full watch.
Their journey soon becomes fret with troubles, as on the night of the first stop, they detect an intruder in their Midst (Birdman) and Otto gets swallow by the Beast, getting stuck in the stomach; a hose is extended to him while they figure a way to get him out – during this time, Birdman looks at the Pellets Box, taking some.
The problems continue when the fiend uses the Pellets it took to snuff another truck driver, causing a roadblock and forcing the team to change course, with the Army providing assistance (By sending one Guy? Kay?); the group by this point takes notice of the flying object following them, while not knowing Black Dragon is becoming immune to the Anesthetics and in the trip, the Beast knocks the truck driver with its tongue, almost causing it to crash, but fortunately, John takes control of the Truck on time. They come to see most of the Pellets were taken and George starts suspecting Gori's machinations are behind it all.
The team calls Kurata for a new batch of Anesthetics Pellets and an Oxygen Tanks for Otto; the University sends a guy to deliver to them, but he is killed by Birdman, driving him off road and onto a cliff. Afterwards, Gori's tells the creature to be ready once in the city. (This becomes a plot hole/blooper, which I dunno if it was an error by the editors, be the Japanese or the American Dubbers).
Once in the city to wait for the Delivery, a crowd gathers around to see the Monster; the Jeep with the Tank and Pellets arrive, despite the guy having been killed and going off road – and no, is not the Birdman in disguise, because the Bastard comes flying down, lands on Black Dragon and injects a substance onto the Monster, awakening it and going on a rampage – Birdman disappears into thin Air with its Job complete.
Side Note: What I assume with the error here is that the first guy was killed, to allow the Monster to make it into the city as Gori planned, and of course with the delivery been late, a second one is dispatch to meet up in the city, but dammit is not possible to not call it an editing error or blooper when the driver is the same guy who got killed before dress in the same suit.
Anyways, in the chaos, George separates from the others to contact Overlord and Transforms into Spectreman to battle the Monster, but the fight is complicated by the fact Otto is still trap inside, this allows the Monster to give a few swipes of its tail to our hero and the monster pins him down with its own weight. In that moment, the Flatbed Trucker provides help to Spectreman by driving over the tail of the creature, distracting it, allowing Spectreman to break free and use his Spectre Freeze on the Monster, holding it in place. This allows the Cyborg to take Otto out and despite been weaken and dizzy by his ordeal, is alive and well. Gori tantrums at another defeat as he flies away.
After the Battle, the Black Dragon is taken under control, back onto the Flatbed and driven through the city without any problems, been the only Kaiju in the series to survive battle with Spectreman.
