Sooo, I was going through some old doodles, trying to get inspiration to draw...and I had forgotten about this silly little guy.

When I was sick at the beginning of this year, I spent a lot of time watching Tasting History to try and distract myself from it. And in the Nyquil-fueled haze I found myself in, I found the episode about the cockentrice particularly fascinating for some reason.

For those who don't know what a cockentrice is, and don't want the grisly details, it is a medieval dish that was made for no other reason than to impress dinner guests. In that lovely cold medicine fugue I found myself in, I thought it looked incomplete, and decided that it needed a fish tail.

So behold the...mercockentrice? I don't know, I thought it was a cute doodle at the time and just wanted to share. I actually don't hate the design either, might do more with this little guy.
