Here is something that you need to consider, these cars can be retrofitted with a more fuel efficient engine. I have a pic of a '46 Streamline in my gallery that the owner retrod up to today's tech.

I really don't like that idea. It feels like your taking the "soul" out of the car that way. Find me a modern engine that roars like old dodge or chevy big blocks and I might consider it.

Almost forgot to add that doing that would cost more than rebuilding an older engine. If you need more than motor mounts or you need to cut some metal out to fit a modern tranny in there you are destroying a classic car. That's bad in my opinion.

I agree, but if it is done right, the is given a new lease on life and can provide many more years of enjoyment

I rebuilt the original 302 in my 69 maverick grabber. I went with EFI, short headers and a free flowing exhaust. It has a nice sound, more than enough power and gets about 25 mpg highway. It's original and I can afford to drive it. Newer is not worth it to me.

Been looking for an Edsel myself, as well as an Airstream camper. But in order for the car to support the camper, I have to beef up the engine, tranny, suspension, supports, brakes and drivetrain. I figure if I do that, might as well go all the way and completely retrostore the car to today's tech. If done right, the car will look form all appearances pure stock.
