Well, its been a busy few months - I bought an apartment! I think I mentioned in a journal beforehand but here you can actually see my bedroom lol
EARTHSPARK NIGHTSHADE
Oh boy has this little owl been controversial, as the franchise's first on-screen nonbinary character. Nightshade rocks, I hope they get more to do in the rest of season 2, they've kinda taken a backseat so far. This is a surprisingly unique figure - I assumed they would borrow engineering from Kingdom Airazor, but its actually entirely original. Kinda wish the wings could fold up more, but at least they're removable.
LEGACY SANDSTORM
I was somewhat hesitant to get Sandstorm since at £50 they're kinda expensive for a glup shitto character, and I've not been impressed with recent triple changers in Legacy. But, whilst he is very small for his price, his engineering is very good - easily a step above Blitzwing from last year. Both alt modes actually feel convincing, for one.I also love that he's got a working winch, you don't see stuff like that often these days.
2007 ARCEE
This gal was somewhat of a grail for me - I wasn't able to get one with a missile but this one is complete enough. Whilst I do prefer this design over the 2009 Revenge of the Fallen look (seriously what were they trying?) I feel like it needs an update, as this figure really shows its age in its articulation. Apparently she was meant to look like this in the first movie, but was cut in favour of either Ironhide or Ratchet. Who are both pretty good too, so I don't really mind.
LEGACY FILCH
Filch is one of only a few Robots in Disguise 2015 designs I like, and this is a decent enough first attempt at giving her a proper figure. Its largely a retool of Kingdom Airazor, as mentioned above, but given the mechanical nature of her crow form, she wears the sculpt a bit better.
LEGACY CANNONBALL
Cannonball, Filch, and Lockdown are all part of a Pirate subline they're doing, and Cannonball certainly looks the part. He's a very heavy retool of Skids from last year, to the point he feels familiar, but mostly original. I feel its kinda weird they did him before Cybertron Red Alert, who wears the same sculpt but is probably the more popular deco. I expect he'll be with us soon.
UNIQUE TOYS DESPERADO (MASTERPIECE DARK OF THE MOON MEGATRON)
Full disclosure, this is a bootleg. The official one is coloured differently and is somewhat smaller, but obviously has better quality control. That being said, this one works as intended so I can't complain. He looks SO ACCURATE, dare I say with the new colours, moreso than the official Unique Toys figure. I even managed to get batteries for his eyes after this photo was taken. His transformation is actually insane though, and he did NOT COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS. That was a fun hour lol
STUDIO SERIES OPTIMUS PRIME
New movie time! Transformers One drops in cinemas in like a month in the UK and I am SO HYPED all the early reviews are indicating its gonna be this series' Spiderverse, if that makes sense. The movie's design for OP is only meant to turn into what vaguely looks like a truck, since they never come to Earth, so they're really able to cram all the essentials into a small, tightly-engineered figure. Highly recommend.
LEGACY LOCKDOWN
So this guy is just a retool of Axlegrease from last year, so I don't have that much to say, other than that it's weird they based his head off his Revenge of the Fallen look, given Legacy largely excludes the movie designs. I only really got this one cuz I need that fuckin pirate collection I love me some pirates.
STUDIO SERIES BUMBLEBEE
This is probably the perfect mainline Bumblebee - they clearly learnt from the mistakes of the Netflix Bumblebee from 2021, cuz this one shares a lot of engineering, but has greatly improved proportions, and doesn't rely on partsforming. Hell, I'd argue this is better than the masterpiece, given how much tidier his back is.
