Cover of chapter two of my historical comic. For those interested, yes, it is the British lion and the Scottish Unicorn. They are placed directionally like heraldic symbols should be in context of my comic, with the unicorn being on the 'good/superior' side (dexter side - side of greatest honour) and the lion being on the 'bad/inferior' (sinister side).
The Scottish unicorn in modern times is on our left, while the UK uses a crest with the lion on our left which would imply superiority and rule over Scotland. These symbols have switched in a rather passive aggressive way over history to imply one holding the crown or the other holding superior dependent on the time period.
This chapter of the comic illustrates the Battle of Herrings, a relatively minor battle in and of itself, but in the context of the Siege of Orleans, it was a major morale blow to Scottish/French forces when a regiment led by a the constable of the Scots in French and Charles of Bourbon was fended off easily and with major casualties by the defending English. The reason it is called the Battle of Herrings, is because the French convoy had been carrying barrels of Herring for the upcoming days of Lent.
