The sun bursts through a gap in an original Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (The Burlington Route) signal at Highlands, Hinsdale, Illinois on the triple-track main line leading west out of Chicago. The line became Burlington Northern in 1970, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) in 1995. Dozens of freight trains, and hundreds of passenger trains- both long distance and commuters- pass under these signals every day.
