Just recently I let Athena go to a horse retirement home, where she could live out her days happily, graze and enjoy the company of a herd. It has only been two weeks since Athena left to her new home, and in that small time I missed her very much, I was going to go and see her this weekend, but I got news on Friday that, during a thunderstorm, Athena spooked and ran into a barbwire fence. The fence cut her too the bone and she was to far gone to save when her new owners found her the morning after. She had to be put down. The people, regretfully, called my family to let them know the news. When I first heard the news, I was in so much shock that I didn't even cry, I didn't even react, I just went about my evening as if it was no big deal. Once the shock passed though, I found myself in tears, shaking and also blaming myself for letting her leave me in the first place.
I'm slowly getting over it, but it still hurts to know I'll never see her again. She was my first horse and the most amazing horse I could ever have. I'll miss her very much, but I know she is in a better place. I just wish I had seen her one last time.
I miss you Athena, so much. <3 Rest In Peace my darling girl. I'll always remember you.
