At one point in the month of August, I made the comment: “If I wasn’t drowning in debt/servicing so much debt, I would be very content with my life.”

I was very sad to eliminate my Patreon rewards to swap to mostly commissions, but with the increased income, I feel much better about my life. The extra income is substantial and gives me so much more margin for things, such as getting the interior of my car fixed from the repair work last month for close to a $1,000.

So overall, I feel much, much better!

3D modeling resumes; start first custom model

The big thing this month is I started 3D modeling again and even began my first custom model of one of my characters, Thundelle.

Thundelle was picked because she has fairly simple details and avoids some features I dread working on in 3D modeling until I feel more confident.

This is my first real step towards working at my next life goal which is to make 3D models for people to use or play around with, particularly for VR.

New laptop on order

I will soon have a new laptop, a considerably powerful one at that; far above my relic of a desktop and my pitiful old laptop that can barely do anything.

What finally pushed me over the edge for wanting a new laptop, particularly over a new desktop, was a lot of times after doing tough yard work, stuff at the newspaper (Hellday) or the bookstore, I’m too tired to sit at my desk. At that point, I just lay in bed with my laptop and my laptop can’t do much outside of 2D art work.

I rarely have time to ever play games, but when I’m too tired to do anything else that would be the best time I could. I just couldn’t because I couldn’t sit at my desk to play on the only machine that could handle 3D games.

With the new laptop I’ll be able to have more recreation time along with the ability to do some 3D modeling.

Building update

I tackled the most involved part of the renovation work at my building in August: installing a back door through a brick wall in preparation for isolating a section of the building for the attorney tenant. This was easily the single most expensive task for the renovation work and now that it’s out of the way, it should be all downhill from here.

Unfortunately though, just days after that got done, the roof started leaking again, in the area I paid $10,000 a year ago to be fixed. So now I have to figure out what happened. Probably another multi thousand expense. -.-‘

New daily routines

Early in the month I was frustrated with my difficulty for getting out of bed most days. I was sluggish to get started.

I suspected it was because I’m getting older and more out of shape and figured I needed to do something about it.

Now on my “core work days” as I call them (Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday), I wake up to an alarm at 9:15 a.m. (I also go to bed an hour earlier). Then the first thing is I make a roughly mile walk to Walmart to buy groceries to carry home another mile. While I am there I reward myself with one pack of Pokemon cards.

This means this month is the first time in over 10 years I’ve collected Pokemon cards. So far I haven’t gotten anything terribly exciting but I know this is to be expected from what I remember of my times long ago.

Thankfully my increased income supports this bit of frivolous spending. >///>

The trading cards are part of the rewards portion of the Atomic Habits cycle if you are familiar with that. If you are not, I highly recommend looking it up for self-improvement!

Also during the day I spend a little bit of time doing body exercises to hopefully build myself up to doing more involved activities.

Ever since I started doing this routine, I feel more inspired and motivated throughout the day. Though I think objectively the real game changer to the whole thing is simply going to bed sooner and waking up to an alarm.
