Cover painting for Ren and Stimpy issue #9. This one had some age related damage, but after reconstructive surgery in Photoshop, I present it for your pleasure(?)

The sky and trees and sand have texture, but the characters are very flat solid color ...

Is that a painted cel for the characters on top of a watercolor background? Or did you color it some other way?

(Don't see as much real media these days!)

The original (my guess anyway) is probably from an image of the animation cel.

The background was airbrushed martin's dye on bristol board and the characters were on a sheet of acetate. The problem was that the acetate had shrunk and buckled with age.

Yeah, cels damage so easily ... glad you were able to repair it digitally at least :D
