Well, I cannot say I'm Japanese, and I cannot say that I am not Japanese... :) I know that it sounds like a riddle, but it's the best I can do for you without giving too much away. Let's just say that I specialize in Japanese history, religion, and culture, but am not considered Japanese myself. By the way, you'll find a picture of my WWII Officer's saber on my profile as well as a picture of me donning some Japanese metals if that sort of thing is of interest to you. Let's just say that WWII, especially the occupation of China, was an unforgiveable disgrace that haunts me to this day. Still, if you ever have questions about Japan, and even the anicent beleifs of kitsune (not the modern/furry ones!) I'd gladly indulge you.

Well, I did some research by myself, read some books, but if I'll need some specialized info in the future, I know who I can ask now ;)
I assume that you did read "The last emperor of China"? One of the best books about the occupation of China. Btw- I find Chinese culture as interesting as Japanese one; they have some curious beliefs about foxes too...

Ah yes! It was from China and Korea that we inherited the 'mischevious fox' beleifs. Before then, a common phrase was "a fox makes a good wife". The Wuli-Jing seems to be a different breed entirely from the Japanese kitsune. Oddly enough, the Korean nine-tailed foxes (Kumiho/Gumiho) seemed to be outright benevolent (if not easily duped) before the medieval era, then they became associated with seduction and eating human livers! Curious... no? :)
