I'll tell you what I know. I got it from an Army Surplus store. It is a knife that was on the end of the guns. Can't think of what they are called at this hour of the morning. lol. I don't know if it was ever used or how old it is exactly. I just saw it and thought it had some nice personality about it.

Yeah that's a good ol' KA-BAR knife. Famous fighting/utility knife utilized by many branches of the armed forces going back as far as World War Two. Developed when it was found the trench knives from the previous war were too expensive to mass produce and their blades were too weak for general utility work like cutting wires or roots, opening cans or serving as a crowbar for unpacking a crate in the field. In some cases they were even used to replace the machetes troops were originally supplied with.
Japan? I can't say for certain whether it's a genuine KA-BAR or a cheap copy. Some KA-BAR models are made overseas while others are still stamped with Olean, NY on the blade where the originals were made. They've even got a section of their site devoted to knives made in the US http://www.kabar.com/knives/us-made
It's possible but there's always exceptions when it comes to price. My KA-BAR came from a pawn shop with the box and paperwork and it only cost $24. Not that I'm bragging, just giving an example.
Most fake knives I've seen come from China or Pakistan, so the fact that it was stamped with Japan makes it a bit of a mystery to me. It might require further research to get to the bottom of it.
