I've always found it hard to keep ideas in my mind when creating characters, but I recently found it very helpful to create "mood boards" and collages full of ideas and doodles. Here is once such mood board, compiling a bunch of ideas for one of my gods: Kuan-Ché! It may be a mess, but you might find it interesting.

I highly recommend anyone who creates characters, worlds, or literally anything to try this out. Not only is it useful for making ideas, it may also help you to appreciate the sheer volume of your work if you have self-esteem issues. I know it does for me~ (You can use Powerpoint, MS Paint, or any software which lets you arrange images. I use Serif Drawplus X6)
