Despite the hasty rejection, Redmond wound up with the life of the Chimera Girl (as she comes to call it) in an oddball post-apocalytpic fantasy setting. While she initially tries to live the simple life of a telekinetic farmer, she soon gets pulled into her ""quantum destiny"" when she has to be the one to negotiate with the Fairies hanging out in the Radioactive Grove. You know, that actually makes sense as a reason why fae don't like iron. Iron is the most atomically stable element, taking energy to fuse and not readily decaying even on cosmic timescales (if protons decay even they decay faster than iron). So they can't get energy from it, or worse, it actually drains their energy.
