Surge and Kitsunami, finding themselves stuck at such a low power level compared to Sonic and his friends, decide on their own to use the power of a “Chaos Emerald” (which would have a strange appearance) and Dr Starline's power crystal to increase their power, but ineptitude and impatience are not a very compatible mix in a compromised place.

Following Kitsunami's advice, Surge decides to go for the crystal that was in Dr. Starline's glove, taking advantage of the opportunity of the moment. The Doctor was fast asleep, probably due to the multiple tests that were performed in the last few weeks, which his “creations” were aware of, so getting the crystal was an easy thing, something that Surge probably wouldn't admit to Kit.
