Originally developed as a light fighter in the X-Universe by the ancient terrans to fight the terraformer threat (later evolved to the Xenon), the Cutlass was designed to be a easily replacable light fighter with weapons that can punch above it's weightclass.
Now this was a tricky one to bring to life, as I wanted to have some transparency/alpha in the middle of the textures replicating that rebar-like struts that the ship have going from the cockpit to the rear.
But when I saw the Cutlass in the Timelines dlc for X4 I knew I had to do something.
The triangular form almost brings me a Viper mk3 vibe from Elite Dangerous and at the same time it gives me some major Star Citizen vibes with it's "spaceplane" look.
The "fork" at the front also gives me a slight Vic Viper vibe from the game series Gradius, so in my opinion this design the designers made would fit so many other games- well done!
NOW GIVE ME MOAR ANCIENT TERRAN SHIPS EGOSOFT!
NOTE1:
I really wanted to keep the cockpit gradients in blues, but the Pico-8 palette is way too limiting. Either that or I have to learn more about gradients with this palette.
NOTE2:
Cutlass? Really? So one of my favorite ship designs in X4 is called the Cutlass and one of my favorite ship designs in Star Citizen is the Cutlass? Small world huh?
