With Phillip and his Dragon Ruby controlling his hometown and everyone in it, Edward's only option was to ally with a fox from another realm, Kiyoshi. Even with his new ally, Edward was warned that Phillip had hired monsters from another world to stop him. To have a fighting chance and reclaim his stolen life, Edward had to rely on Kiyoshi's newly learned spell, The Curse of the Beast. Although Kiyoshi knew how to use this curse, if done incorrectly, Edward would become a mindless beast, rendering everything moot. Despite their hopes for the spell to work on the first try, their hesitation triggered Edward's road to beasthood, voluntarily or not.

The last thing Edward could recall from his painful transformation before blacking out was his first loud roar as a werelion. Kiyoshi had to knock him out with a metal bat to prevent further harm. Luckily, Edward healed quickly and was desperate to try again, more prepared than ever.

After several tries, the two eventually succeeded, marking Edward's first real rebirth as a newly formed werelion. With a loud roar to signify the change, Edward was ready to take on Phillip.
