What a lovely day for flying! The sun is .... definitely not out. The birds are ... absolutely not chirping. Nonetheless, lets go! It should be fun.

I love how this looks! You are very good at drawing rain (and dragons), and how the rain looks on the wings, and how the scales look wet. You always include so much details to you art!
I really like the posture and pose here! The way you draw quadrupedal dragons standing on two legs always looks so good.
Kiearra definitely looks like they are enjoying the weather!
Also, is that a water tornado in front of the lightning?

I also love the quadrupedal dragon on their hind legs pose. It looks so regal and powerful, confident and awe-striking. The pose is definitely a challenge to pull off as if you go too far with it, it'll end up looking anthro instead of feral, which was something I was quite wary of when drawing it here.
She is VERY much enjoying the weather! There are a total of three water tornados in the background. She's inviting you to fly in one with her. Doesn't it sound like fun? hehe

Oh, wow! Lovely work as always <3
This pose came out really good, it makes her look very excited for the prospect of flight. Like "Come on, lets gooooo" vibes. Not to mention the details on her, the rain (really liking that rivulet running down the side of her tail after collecting on her wing), the overall illumination of the piece and the background (omg water tornadoes!) :)
Would love to go flying with her (she looks soooo excited about it), but I suspect my fire dragoness would be a bit of a grump in such weather (where is the warmth?!) shoves my water dragon at her instead :P

YES! That is EXACTLY the vibe I was going for. I said that a bunch of times while working on this and sharing my screen in discord calls. I took critique on my sketch a lot during this time too and specifically said I wanted to get the "cmon, lets go!" vibe, so hearing you say exactly those words makes me overjoyed!
I added the water rivulet near the end of the work on the piece, and thought it was a nice detail. I'm glad you noticed it!
Kiearra, ironically, is pretty scared of deep water. It doesn't bother her to fly over it, but swimming *in* it? Yikes! Of course she'd love to go flying with you, fire or water, haha.

It's been quite a while, but it only goes to show how much time you really do spend on each of these wonderful illustrations, I'd say!
I love the detail of how all the rocks have little beveled bowls, and the water has only partially filled them up, that's ALOT of detail for such a small part of this awesome artwork!

Thanks! I took about a month to make this one, starting on the 18th of July. I went out of town for a week as well later in July, so I think it probably took me about 3 weeks total. Ironically, I actually cut some corners I haven't cut in the past on this piece and simplified several of the rendering steps I go through on my most highly detailed pieces.
Either way, they definitely do take a lot of time and effort. I'm glad you caught that detail on the rocks. I had more of them at the start and drew a whole foreground of them, but then a bunch got covered up by the tumultuous ocean. I kept adding more and more water and it kept pushing the storm intensity higher and higher and I liked it, even if I was drawing over work I'd done.

Thanks! I really wanted to push the orange eye contrast and make it very vibrant and sharp. A lot of times, ill ignore the rest of the lighting of the scene with eyes just to get them to stand out like that even if it's not realistic.
Regarding the framing of the picture, I actually tried it with the full top of my head showing a couple different times during working on this, where I scaled my character down by 10% or so to keep the head on-canvas.. Oddly, it didn't have the same vibe or feel as it did when I go off-frame on all four sides of the canvas.
I was confused by this, and asked an artist friend of mine why I kept liking it more when my head got cut off at the top of the canvas, and she told me why. It's because when I frame the picture this way, it feels like I'm speaking and gesturing directly to the viewer and the viewer feels invited into the scene and a part of it. When I go further out, that interactive feel breaks.
At least, that's what I was picking up on. I do wish I had that head top now though to make a more zoomed-out avatar.
