"November eighteenth"
A few months ago, on the ninth of August, I had heard tales of people seemingly going missing for months, only to reappear much later with much larger proportions. Normally, I wouldn't intervene on these matters, but a few of my citizens had began to suffer this fate. It is my responsibility, as there governing body, to take care of them and get to the bottom of this. I had felt that this was the work of a witch. So I had asked my former mentor, Ordelia, about the peculiar circumstance my citizens had suffered. Sure enough, she was well versed with the matter.
The witches name was Juniper. A peculiar pastry witch who was know to have quite the mischievous streak as a pupil, something she didn't exactly grow out of. If anything, going off Ordelia's records, she got worst with age; becoming quite the pain to any passerby, and bloating them up to the size of a whale. All simply for a laugh. As she told me, Ordelia found that she was just a nuisance to everyone, and was forced to leave. Unfortunately, if anything, it just made her antics worst. The reports of people going missing and showing up fattened or bloated up began to sprung up. Our best guess is that she's migrating in some kind of animate cabin, as some witches prefer to keep their home mobile; and, knowing that she wishes to pull pranks on passer by, means that she's tooken residents near my kingdom. I was recommended to scare her off with my own power, but was cautioned to be careful to not fall to her tricks or traps.
Cautiously, I investigated, searching for traces of infernal magic in the nearby area. Sure enough, I found the pesky Marten, her cabin not too far from my residents in the mountains. With the knowledge that I was given by my former mentor, I took haste. The cabin was small, inconspicuous, and resting in an area where it didn't stand out from any other cabin near by. I have to commend her efforts, she had thought her trap out well. They even went as far to construct the façade of resident, pathway to the main road, a false mailbox, and a even a flower garden surrounding the property. Taking no time at all, I made haste to the front door. Before I could knock on the door, it swung open, and greeting me was a tall black and cream Marten of a slender figure. I figured she would have known me from my escapades in the academy, and my suspicion was proven right as she greeted me as "one of Ordelia's favorite pupils". She welcomed me in for tea and coffee, and began to make small talk as we entered the home.
We talked for awhile, before she asked if I would like some desserts. I declined. However, Juniper had other plans, and insisted that I looked "pekish". Before I could retort, her trap sprung to life: Claws of shadow sprung out and forced down delicate pastries that began to also spawn from the shadows. I tried to fight back, but she had prepared for this outcome and sprung more hands then I could fend off. What didn't help matters, was that I had began to balloon faster then I had anticipated. It seems she was more prepared in the matter then I was. Unfortunately, as I was fighting off her constructs, she was able to escape. Turns out, only the back half of the house was actually her moving cabin. She was able to detach it and escape into the night. With her disappearance, I waddled home in defeat. Though I was able to ward her off for now, I couldn't stop her here. I hope that she doesn't cause any more trouble in the future.
