A tanuki who is an avid fan of sumo who travels the world to train and hone his style against other fighters. During his travels, he finds himself at the Rumble Pit after following rumors of strong fighters appearing there. While watching one of the fights, however, he gets into an altercation with a cocky raccoon wrestler, leading to a brief brawl. Bunta knocks out the wrestler with a single palm strike, which draws the attention of a large lion who goes by Rohan.

He is the pit's owner and sweet talks Bunta into signing up, promising the best opportunity to battle many of the strongest fighters around, including the pit's champion. Despite joining, Bunta has no interest in becoming the pit's champion, but if he can improve his sumo style, he will gladly take the chance.

Bunta usually keeps his cool in a fight but can be riled up easily due to opponents that use cheap/dirty tricks. Bunta uses aggressive strikes and throws to disorient his opponents and being a tanuki, is able to enlarge parts of his body. He usually uses this technique to increase his arm mass for more powerful blows. Unfortunately, his skills are lacking using this technique, which can lead to backfires. Usually involving "other parts" of his body expanding instead. (belly, balls, rump, lower body or upper body)
